Residency Requirement
North Carolina interprets the residency requirement as a domicile requirement, meaning that you must have the intent to make a home here or to live here indefinitely in order to be considered a resident. Evidence of domicile may include things like obtaining a North Carolina driver’s license, registering to vote in North Carolina, or owning residential property in North Carolina that is your primary residence. The six-month residency period must immediately precede the filing of the divorce complaint.
